Mathilde Milwidsky (violin) & Huw Watkins (piano)

- Main Information
The very talented young violinist, Mathilde Milwidsky, takes to the stage this evening with her musical partner, Huw Watkins, for an absorbing programme of music for violin and piano duo.
Mathilde is the winner of numerous awards, a Classic FM Rising Star in 2023 and dedicatee of a new work for violin by the British composer, Joseph Phibbs, in 2020.
Huw, who was last in Hexham with the Goldscheider Horn Trio earlier this year, is a gifted pianist who performs throughout Europe and North America as soloist and chamber musician. He is also a successful composer with several prestigious commissions to his name, including his second symphony which won him the South Bank Sky Arts Award for classical music in 2022 and was first performed by the Hallé Orchestra under Sir Mark Elder.
Mathilde and Huw’s programme this evening is a fascinating survey of music from the baroque era to the 20thcentury. There’s a bluesy, jazzy feel to the slow movement of Ravel’s sonata while the Passacaglia by the 17th century composer, Biber, is a spectacular showpiece for the violin. Music by Mozart, Brahms and three 20th century composers complete a programme that really must be heard!
