Elastic Band

A mixed instrument band for anyone aged 12 - 15 meeting on Mondays during term time, 4.30 – 5.30pm.

Elastic Band are a group of young folk musicians who meet weekly at Queen's Hall to learn folk tunes by ear. The young people play instruments including violin, harp and keyboard. The group is open to new members who already play an instrument and who are interested in playing in a group.

Elastic Band sessions are led by professional folk musician Tom Kimber.

Tom is a Northumberland based multi-instrumentalist who specialises in fretted strings and is most often seen playing mandolin, tenor guitar and tenor banjo. Originally from Bath, he moved to Newcastle in 2011 to study Folk and Traditional music at Newcastle University. After graduating in 2015, he won the renowned Danny Kyle award at Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow with his band, Pons Aelius. He has since completed a masters degree at Newcastle University, with a focus on composing and performing contemporary mandolin repertoire.
