Following the success of last year’s critically acclaimed and audience favourite Red Riding Hood, Queen’s Hall Hexham and Triple Treat Theatre are teaming up once again to bring two magical new festive productions to audiences this Christmas.
Running from 5 December, A Christmas Carol and The Snow Globe will offer festive adventures for audiences of all ages, from first-time theatregoers to family groups looking to create lasting Christmas memories together.
For audiences aged 6+ and their families, A Christmas Carol will take over the venue’s Main Theatre from 5 December – 2 January. From the team behind the brilliantly received Red Riding Hood, this magical retelling of the Dickens classic invites audiences to step into a world of twinkling lanterns, toe-tapping carols and larger-than-life characters as A Christmas Carol bursts into town in a whirlwind of festive fun. Suitable for everyone from 6 to 106, the production promises a heartwarming festive adventure for the whole family.
In Queen’s Hall’s Studio, The Snow Globe (5 – 31 December) will delight audiences aged under 6 and their families. Packed with festive fun, adventure and a reminder that sometimes the smallest worlds hold the biggest magic, this enchanting Christmas tale follows a journey home that audiences won’t soon forget. Perfect for those who enjoyed previous Christmas favourites The Night Before ChrisMouse and The Great Big Wrapping Disaster, the production offers a magical first theatre experience for younger children.
Triple Treat makes theatre shows for children and family audiences. Their festive production Red Riding Hood, created for Queen’s Hall Hexham in 2025, was warmly received by audiences and critics alike, building on the team’s reputation for creating imaginative, music-filled family theatre. Their first two shows, the spooktacular Halloween productions for Northern Stage, The Gingerbread Man (2022) and The Bat with No Bite (2023), were both sell-out productions full of music, puppetry and Halloween fun.
Bob Nicholson, Triple Treat Co-Director, commented: “We are so thrilled to be returning to Queen's Hall this Christmas after the success of Red Riding Hood last year! The audiences in Hexham were wonderful so we're excited to meet them again, with not one but two new shows. For under 6s and their grown ups we've got a brand new show The Snow Globe which will be chock-full of Christmas sparkle, not to mention opportunities to get up, wiggle those legs and join in.
And for ages 6-106, the whole family, we're very pleased to announce a collaboration with a certain Mr Charles Dickens...ever heard of him? We're giving him the Triple Treat treatment so expect toe tapping numbers, spectacular puppets and some familiar characters played by some familiar faces...nothing to make you utter 'bah, humbug!”
Katy Taylor, Artistic Director and Chief Executive of Queen’s Hall Arts, said:“We’re absolutely delighted to be working with Triple Treat again this year following the wonderful response to Red Riding Hood and The Great Big Christmas Wrapping Disaster. A Christmas Carol and The Snow Globe will bepacked with imagination, adventure and festive magic, and we can’t wait to welcome audiences through our doors this Christmas.Once again, we’re raising money through our Theatre Tickets Fund. Every £10 donated helps make it possible for a local child to experience the magic of live theatre. To date, the fund has supported more than 1,000 children to attend our Christmas shows.
We’ve frozen our Christmas show ticket prices this year to support our community through rising living costs and ongoing uncertainty. As a charity, filling as many seats as possible is more important than ever in helping us make these productions possible, and we look forward to creating more unforgettable festive memories together.
We’re also proud to continue our tradition of giving back to those who give so much. On Saturday 5 December, we’re offering free tickets to Emergency Services staff as a heartfelt thank you to those who work tirelessly to keep us safe throughout the festive season and all year round.”
