About

Environmental Responsibility

Queens Hall Arts recognizes the importance of environmental responsibility, and we are committed to:

- Environmental responsibility being considered as part of our decisions

- Being honest and transparent about the successes and challenges of QHA’s environmental responsibility journey

- Continuous improvement

- Being unafraid to try new ideas and applying creativity to our thinking

- Sharing successes and inspiring others to try new ways of doing things

The Future is Now Project

In 2025, Queen’s Hall Arts secured funding from the Community Foundation to deliver The Future is Now project—an environmental initiative focused on improving our sustainability both within the organisation and across the wider community.

So far, The Future is Now has included a weekend-long Future is Now Festival, building on the success of earlier Net Zero Fairs and working with local community organisation.

We’ve delivered Carbon Literacy Training for staff and board members, with sessions for local community groups coming soon. We’re also organising a Green Careers Lunch to support young people interested in exploring environmentally focused career paths.

Building upgrades

We’re delighted to have recently upgraded our heating system, making it more energy-efficient and cost-effective. We’re also planning essential repairs to our roof and, in the future, hope to install solar panels to further reduce our environmental impact.

If you’d like to support the ongoing care of our building, please consider making a donation. As a charity, we’re grateful for every contribution — large or small.

DONATE TODAY!

"As a trustee and member of the Environmental Responsibility Working Group, I am proud to support these vital improvements to our historic building. Investing in sustainable upgrades like a more efficient heating system helps us protect the Queen’s Hall for generations to come."

Carbon Literacy Training

Staff and board members at Queen’s Hall have recently completed Carbon Literacy Training, helping us to deepen our understanding of the practical changes we can make—both at work and at home—to reduce our environmental impact. We also delivered training for local community groups, including Forum Cinema, Hexham Community Centre and Théâtre Sans Frontières, among others.

Green Careers Day

Queen’s Hall Arts teamed up with the Environment Agency, Northumberland National Park, Vattenfall and HE Services Ltd to deliver a fantastic Green Careers Day at Queen Elizabeth High School. Sixth formers had the chance to drop in and engage directly with the organisations, while GCSE students took part in an inspiring and informative panel discussion led by our trustee, Ceri Gibson. Thank you to all who took part.
