Nick Thornton is a Hexham-based photographer with a passion for capturing the landscapes, wildlife and people of Northumberland. A largely self-taught photographer, Nick developed his skills through years of practice, beginning with photographs of family and friends before expanding his focus to the natural world and local communities.
Much of Nick’s work celebrates Hexham and the surrounding area, showcasing familiar places in fresh and engaging ways. Through his photography, he aims to encourage people to pause, look more closely, and appreciate the beauty in everyday moments, whether it's sunlight across a landscape, wildlife in a local garden, or special moments shared with loved ones.
Nick also enjoys exploring further afield in search of dramatic natural scenes, from the dark skies and Aurora displays above Hadrian’s Wall to the wildlife of the Northumberland coast, including the iconic puffins of the Farne Islands.
Nick’s framed photographs are available to purchase from the Queen’s Hall Box Office, alongside a selection of unframed prints and greetings cards.
