As plans for the return of Hexham Lantern Parade are gathering pace, we're delighted to announce live music from Northern Monkey Brass Band and a series of free lantern-making workshops - giving local families the chance to create their own lanterns and join the celebrations.
After a break in 2025, the much-loved community parade will once again light up Hexham on Friday 13 November, presented by Queen’s Hall Arts thanks to the generous support of EGGER.
Providing the soundtrack to this year’s parade will be Northern Monkey Brass Band, a deeply funky collective of some of the North East’s finest drum and brass musicians.
Blending New Orleans funk roots with a distinctly Northern edge, the band’s exhilarating live performances feature original music, New Orleans classics and unique arrangements of well-known pop songs. Their infectious brass and percussion grooves promise to bring plenty of energy to the streets as lanterns make their way through Hexham.
Ahead of the parade, Queen’s Hall Arts and EGGER are also inviting families to get involved by making their own lanterns at a series of FREE lantern-making workshops at Queen’s Hall.
Taking place during October half term on Tuesday 27 October, with further sessions on Saturday 7 November, the 45-minute workshops will give participants everything they need to create their own lantern ready to carry in the parade.
Sessions take place at 10am, 11am and 12pm on both dates and are suitable for ages 6+. All lantern-making materials will be provided, with participants simply needing to add their own battery-operated light at home before the parade.
The workshops are completely free, but advance booking is recommended, and a ticket should be booked for everyone wishing to make a lantern. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
As a family-owned company with strong roots in Hexham, EGGER is proud to support the return of the Hexham Lantern Parade, an event that reflects its longstanding commitment to community and family. Established in Hexham in 1984, EGGER’s support is helping Queen’s Hall Arts bring local artists, schools and families together to create and take part in this much-loved community event.
